Much like a jigsaw puzzle, the importance of prophecy is
seen when we see that God has a clear master plan and pur-
pose through the ages. Since we now see that the earlier
prophecies were fulfilled on specific days with Christ’s first
coming; we can rest assured and have faith through the dark
times in which we live that the later prophecies regarding His
second coming will be fulfilled on specific days as well. One
can trust the accuracy of the Bible, and the plans of God. The
certainty that prophecy is God-inspired is addressed below in 2
Peter.
Inspiration of Prophecy
“
And we have the word of the prophets made more certain,
and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining
in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises
in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no proph-
ecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpreta-
tion. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but
men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy
Spirit
” (2 Peter 1:19-21).
In speaking of earlier and later prophecies and their inspira-
tion, the book of Isaiah says:
“
I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory
to another or my praise to idols. See, the former things have
taken place, and new things I declare; before they spring into
being I announce them to you
” (Isaiah 42:8-9).
It also says:
